  1. I am interested in getting my work published. I have self published two books to date through the website FeedaRead.com which has been excellent, however, I am interested in breaking into the big publishing houses! I have three more completed manuscripts and am working on my next one. My problem is knowing how to present my work to the publishing houses, they are happy to tell me I haven’t presented correctly but not happy to enlighten me on the correct format. I would appreciate any help or comments.

    • Hi, thanks for your interest. Sorry I haven’t got back to you sooner: for some reason this message went through to my spam folder. Breaking into the big publishing houses is super difficult. You’ll need an agent, and that’s the first nut to crack. One of the agents in London published his figures in 2011, and these showed that of the 24,000 submissions he received that year he only took on 3 new writers. The problem is that the publishing world is so competitive these days that agents and publishers are taking on only those that they feel are a sure thing: basically that means celebs and already proven writers. My advice would be to stick with the self publishing route, make your books as good as they can be, and learn to target market. Kindle is a great tool: perhaps you should look into this (Mike Alvear has a great book aimed at Kindle publishers). We are also in the process of setting up our own publishing house for self publishers, and this will be pretty different to what is on the market already: watch this space). In the meantime, I’ll post a couple of blogs of articles I wrote a short while ago for a newspaper that might give some help.

      Keep write on
      Michael
